Focus on Food
Focus on Food – if you have the patience with this site, and don’t mind things changing, places will be added more and more so that when you walk out the door or travel in your car you can find multiple places that have food allergy or gluten-free items/information on their websites. If you have read “What’s it all about” you will see that this site will be growing in stages. Having being taught that if the site waited until it was perfect until people get to use it, well that would be a long wait. What would be the magic number for release 1000, 2000 or even 10000, the decision was made to go with what we have now. Plus, we get to see at the same time if there is a response to what we have in here. If people were finding the site useful then the decision would be made to go for crowdfunding to hire people to enter in more sites so that the list could grow quicker, right now there is only ONE person entering in the information. Plus, that one person, needs to work other jobs to have the money coming in… Focus […]
What’s it all about?
What’s it all about? – Never have been fond of the guessing game, on let’s try this place or that place and see if it works out, seeing if I can eat there with my allergies. Plus, if you have people with you and they so want a certain type of food but you can’t eat there cause they can’t or won’t work with you on the allergies. You don’t want to have ask the whole table to leave and hear a collective moan or sigh, to go and try and find another place to eat. One can have their share of to many salads even then asking for dressing on the side and no croutons because your allergic to wheat, soy, pepper, well you get the idea. You don’t want to appear high-maintenance because you really aren’t BUT you want to eat safely and enjoy the time. Plus, not be wondering the whole time if you are going to have a reaction. One thing I came across with having multiple allergies while loving to travel, but not wanting to pack a ton of food because you don’t know where to find places. Your standby restaurant might not be available […]
Geolocation and food?
First, what is geolocation? Here is a good explanation: “Geolocation is the identification or estimation of the real-world geographic location of an object, such as a radar source, mobile phone, or Internet-connected computer terminal. In its simplest form geolocation involves the generation of a set of geographic coordinates and is closely related to the use of positioning systems, but its usefulness is enhanced by the use of these coordinates to determine a meaningful location, such as a street address.” resource is Wikipedia Okay, never thought I would be a fan of geolocation, it just became that annoying thing that popped up on some websites asking for permission to use geolocation. So if you are not a fan, you can always say no, or not allow, and you can still use the site that you are on. For any device to geolocate, one needs to give the website permission to see the location of your device. So, here is a quick definition why the feature is available to use on TAB Street, helping you find something to eat within 100 miles of your location. It’s really cool, cause you can set the radius/miles that you are interested in up to 100 […]
Allergies outside of the box
Speaking from experience with my multitude of allergies, it forces you to think ‘outside’ the box. What can I do now, instead of going with the usual, I can’t just grab a burger or sub, that wheat allergy put a big halt to that one. So, how about an omelet with ham and cheese, nope, the egg allergy thing. Let’s make it easier and tell you that there are six food allergies, wheat, soy, peanuts, black pepper, egg, and potatoes! You saw that last one, potatoes, let me tell you it’s hard to give up french fries when you have eaten them most of your days, don’t even get me started on a baked potato with sour cream and chives.. YUM, but sadly no more. Black pepper, do you know how hard it is to find food that doesn’t have black pepper on it? But that is a story for another day for you see I was diagnosed with allergies later in life and having to give up those foods that were so good and can one can find almost anywhere is HARD. Okay, the one thing that I never wanted to do was turn into a rabbit with eating […]
A discussion with myself
No matter how many times I have the discussion with myself, I have to embrace these allergies. Yeah, I know I wrote embrace them, but seriously sometimes I want to throttle them. How dare they creep up now!! I am not young, I have several years on me and I have eaten these foods for my whole life. So, many years being able to eat those foods and whamoo… I can’t eat them anymore? The lure of the french fry, the baked potato with sour cream and chives, the cakes, the pastries and so much more stuff that I can not have anymore. Of course I do know now why I kept getting bronchitis all the time among other things… Allergies! The real kicker is that the allergies brought along, allergy induced asthma. I want to kick that too, but I know when I start coughing I am around something that doesn’t agree with me whether it is the environment or the food. Of course I should give the food allergies a break I have more environmental allergies than I do have food allergies. It has been years since the initial diagnosis and I am still don’t want to embrace […]
